Bedre Byggeskik I
On a corner ground north of Copenhagen lies a Danish Bedre byggeskik house built in 1917. The house has been restored and a new-built garden house added to the ground.
Arriving at the house you wouldn't immediately have thought it a Bedre Byggeskik house. Alterations had been made through decades to make the house more stately like most villas in the area.
The current owner took over the house in 2021. With three children they were looking into options on how to extend the 1st floor with a new roof.

Looking closely at the house, we decided to approach it with a high level of sensitivity, wanting to bring it closer to its original character and to strengthen its position as a Bedre Byggeskik house.
Wanting to keep the original roof shape while expanding the 1st floor we added new dormers. New tiles were added in a slightly matt and warm finish matching the copper piping, light yellow rendered facades and sandstone details.
Inside the house, the original interior was restored. New additions were added seamlessly so the original ambience of the period house was embraced.
A recent eastward extension of the house was demolished, as it was poorly executed and out of harmony with the original structure. In its place, the old entrance and garden wall were reconstructed, embracing and concealing a new garden house.
A courtyard was created, filled with herbs, a kitchen area, and a long table for scandinavian summer dinners.
